Cassie's Story...
On January 6, 2008, on the way home from her boyfriend's house, our beloved 17 year-old
daughter/sister was involved in a fatal car accident. There were no drugs or alcohol involved and she
was only going between 30 to 35 mph, this was confirmed in the police report. Due to her limited
experience as a driver (1 year) and inclement weather that evening, she lost control of her car and hit a
telephone pole and a stone wall. As a result of the impact, she was killed due to blunt trauma.
The
investigating officers informed us that if Cassie had been wearing her seatbelt, she would have walked
away from the accident with only a bump on her head. As a family, we are trying to reach out to all
drivers, especially the newer ones; in hopes that this story will make them aware of just how important
it is to wear a seat belt. Shortly after her death, we began printing bumper stickers with the slogan "Click it for Cassie" in the shape of a seatbelt.
It is our goal as a family to tell Cassie's story to as
many people as we can in order to prevent a repeat of this tragedy. The bumper sticker is our attempt
to slow down this senseless loss of life, attributed directly to not wearing seatbelts. Please, spread the
message...and Click it for Cassie.
